It's not your internet: Google suffered an explosion in one of its data centers

Yesterday, at 11:59 local time, an explosion was reported at the Google data center , located in Omaha, Iowa . The first reports indicate that three electricians are in serious health, so they were immediately transferred to the Nebraska Medical Center.

According to Jim Wood, deputy chief of the Council Bluffs Fire Department, mentioned that first responders were dispatched to the data center at 11:59 am with a report of an electrical event on the property.

Scanner traffic indicates there were initial reports of a “large explosion,” but Wood would not confirm details.

On the other hand, the Council Bluffs Scanner mentioned that there were seven injuries, especially with burns. The injuries include burns to the face, torso and legs.

How did this fall affect Google services?

This complex, located near Lake Manawa State Park, is one of Google’s largest data centers, housing high-tech computers used to store and process large amounts of information.

However, there is no way of knowing if they are related to the explosion and Google has not announced any service outages related to the incident.

Devon Smiley, a Google spokesman told Expansión that:

“We are aware of an electrical incident at the Google data center in Council Bluffs, Iowa, injuring three people on site who are already being treated. The health and safety of all workers is our top priority, and we are working closely with our business partners and local authorities to fully investigate the situation and provide assistance as needed.”
