An Ebola patient was “cured” in Ivory Coast. Two tests were negative, it said.

Abidjan – A young woman from Guinea who tested positive for the Ebola virus in the West African country of Ivory Coast has been “cured” according to the Ivorian Ministry of Health. Ministry spokesman Serge Eholié told the AFP news agency on Tuesday (August 24th, 2021) that two Ebola tests were carried out on the 18-year-old, both of which were negative. Since the woman can no longer infect anyone, her isolation will be lifted.

Shortly before she was diagnosed with Ebola, the young woman came to Abidjan by bus from Labe in northern Guinea. The 18-year-old was the first Ebola patient in Ivory Coast since 1994.

Because of the case, Ivory Coast started vaccinations against the Ebola virus in the middle of the month. * The vaccine was administered to health workers and to contact persons of the infected woman. Security forces stationed on the border between Ivory Coast and Guinea should also be vaccinated. There was an Ebola outbreak in Guinea that year, which was officially declared over in June.

Ebola sufferers suffer from fever, muscle pain, diarrhea, internal bleeding and ultimately organ failure. It is transmitted through direct contact with the body fluids of an infected person. In previous Ebola epidemics, the death rate was between 25 and 90%, according to the World Health Organization. (AFP) * fr.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
