The round of awards for the TV presenters Joko Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf continues. Now comes the Robert Geisendörfer Prize of the Protestant Church.

Frankfurt / Main – The TV presenters Joko Winterscheidt and Klaas Heufer-Umlauf have once again received a prestigious award for their socially critical actions at prime time.

After the Grimme Prize and the German Television Prize, the ProSieben entertainers have now also been awarded the Robert Geisendörfer Prize, more precisely the special prize of the jury. The two received the award for their programs that they produced with the airtime they earned from the show “Joko & Klaas gegen ProSieben”.

In the airtime freely available to them, the moderator duo dealt with topics such as rescuing refugees at sea, fighting right-wing extremism and helping the homeless. The jury was particularly impressed by their seven-hour documentary # Not of course on the nursing emergency at the end of March, according to the website of the Protestant Media Prize.

In addition to the special prize, the jurors awarded the Robert Geisendörfer Prize to six other radio and television programs. The jury for general programs honored the author Izzeldin Abuelaish and director Claudia Johanna Leist for their radio play “I won’t hate” (WDR, 2019). The author Steffi Fetz, the presenter Merve Kayikci and the presenters Malcolm Ohanwe and Ramin Sina received the media award for the podcast “Sack of rice – what’s your business?” (SWR, 2020).

Author and director Annette Baumeister as well as author and director Wilfried Huismann honored the jury for their documentary “Colonia Dignidad – From the interior of a German sect” (Arte, 2020). Actress Britta Hammelstein, actor Ulrich Noethen, author Susanne Beck, author Thomas Eifler and director Ben von Grafenstein won the media award with the docudrama “Die Unwollten – Die Irrfahrt der St. Louis” (NDR, 2020).

The jury for children’s programs honored the author and director Agnes Lisa Wegner for the television episode “The girl with long hair – look into my world” (SWR, 2020). Director Renate Bleichenbach, author and protagonist Britta de Matteis and cameraman Markus Tomsche also received the Robert Geisendörfer Prize for the television episode “Wir kriegen ein Baby – Die Sendung mit dem Elefanten” (WDR, 2020).

In 2020, the media prize was not awarded due to the Corona crisis, which is why submissions from the previous year were taken into account this year. Due to the pandemic, this year’s award ceremony will be broadcast as a television documentary on 3sat on October 10th at 12.15 p.m.

The Robert Geisendörfer Prize of the Protestant Church has been awarded since 1983. The prizes are endowed with a total of 30,000 euros, the special prize is undoped. Public and private broadcasters can participate with programs “that strengthen personal and social responsibility, contribute to the good coexistence of individuals, groups, peoples and mutual respect for the sexes”. dpa
