Jorge Martín: "We have the potential to do better than in Argentina"

The season for Jorge Martín started very strong in terms of driving, feelings and classification – he has always been in the front row and achieved a pole position -, but in the race things were denied to the Spaniard, who ended up with two defeats in the Qatar and Indonesia.

However, in the last round, held last week in Argentina, Martín got rid of his sorrows with an impeccable performance, dominating more than 20 laps until, only at the end, he was subdued by Aleix Espargaró’s Aprilia, to finish second.

With the inertia of the good sensations of Termas, Martín hopes to continue in that line this weekend.

“After a great weekend in Argentina I feel confident, all year we have been competitive, but for me it had been difficult to finish races, doing it in Argentina was fantastic. Last year here I was ahead, but I was penalized with a long lap and I lost the options, now I think we will be able to continue in the line of Argentina this weekend”, said Pramac’s man at the press conference prior to the Grand Prix of the Americas.

One of the details that the Madrilenian left said in Termas, is that one of the keys had been to return to the set-up of the 2021 bike. However, Martín sees potential in the Ducati GP22.

“This year’s bike is much easier to turn, better than last year’s, but it has other points where it is not as strong, we have lost a bit of speed on the straight, but I am confident because the base is better, and that will lead us, in the long run, to be better”, he valued.

At that point they insisted on the sensations, if they were better or worse with this year’s bike.

“It’s hard to say, at least now we are more consistent, especially considering the race in Argentina, the feeling was more similar to last year, but now we have more potential and I hope we do even better than a year ago. week”, in reference to improving that second place at the finish line.

To do this, Martín will have to adapt to a circuit that has been resurfaced and where potholes have been a handicap in recent years.

“The circuit and the asphalt will be the same for all the drivers, I’m not excited about potholes, I don’t know what to expect, you have to go out on the track and understand how it works with the new asphalt.”

Finally, Martín, who was at the press conference together with Marc Márquez, Fabio Quartararo and Aleix Espargaró, was asked about the Aprilia party after the victory on Sunday, in which he slipped in, as he himself shared on his networks social.

“It was a long night, we had a good time, there was champagne, Aleix is a great friend, we started the night together and then each one went his own way (laughs), we were tired, but we had a good time”, Aleix himself intervened there , winner of the race in Argentina to ensure that “at night Jorge clearly beat me” (more laughter).
