The promoter of the world championship, the Spanish company Dorna, announced this Tuesday that the MotoGP World Championship will extend its 2023 calendar to a new appointment in Kazakhstan, after having signed an agreement for five seasons with those responsible for the Sokol International Racetrack , the track located just outside the city of Almaty, the largest city in the country.

“The FIM MotoGP World Championship comes to Kazakhstan in 2023, marking the start of a new five-year deal that sees MotoGP touch down in a new region of the world when the impressive Sokol International Racetrack joins the calendar,” he explains. Dorna in an official note. 

“Sokol is a brand new motor complex built in the heart of Central Asia. The region will be a new pit stop for MotoGP as the sport continues to expand around the world, encompassing new markets and fan bases,” the statement continues. . 

“Kazakhstan will also become the 30th country to host a motorcycle Grand Prix since 1949, a perfect number to celebrate the ever-growing history of motorsport’s first World Championship, and the Sokol International Autodrome will be the 74th venue to host a Grand Prix. Pending the confirmation of the official 2023 calendar, the Sokol appointment is scheduled for the beginning of July 2023.
