Würzburg: crowd follows alleged murderer through the streets

A video shows a man in a beige top walking into a busy place, initially quite leisurely. Another man tries to attack the fleeing man with a kind of long stick. The fleeing man defends himself and throws back objects that he finds on the street.

Several other passers-by use folding chairs, perhaps from a nearby restaurant or café, as weapons. They throw chairs at the fleeing man. A crowd of about fifteen people, apparently mostly men, follow the alleged perpetrator until he finally disappears around a corner of the house. A police car follows the crowd.

Another video, which is presumably further back in time, shows the alleged attacker with another man who is apparently “armed” with a kind of backpack or bag. The alleged attacker has a knife, but does not use it against his opponent, but throws objects at him that he finds on the ground. The man with the bag tries to confront the fugitive with threatening gestures. The scenes are unbelievable, right in the middle of the city center. “He has just stabbed a woman,” says a young man from Würzburg * in a third video when the police hold the fugitive down on the ground and makes angry remarks about the prisoner.

Söder comments on the intervention of passers-by

In the meantime, the situation in Würzburg has been secured, as the police announced – it was a single perpetrator.

Bavaria’s Prime Minister Markus Söder * (CSU *) commented on the intervention of passers-by on Twitter: “A big thank you and respect for the courageous intervention of many citizens who resolutely opposed the alleged attacker. And all rescue workers for their work on site. ” (Cg) – * Merkur.de is an offer from IPPEN.MEDIA.
