Large amounts of rain expected in eastern federal states

The new week will start quite uncomfortably. A lot of rain will fall locally. But an improvement in the weather is in sight.

Offenbach – The new week starts rainy in Germany – in some areas with a lot of precipitation.

In an area in the east from northern Thuringia and Saxony via Saxony-Anhalt to the Berlin area, larger amounts of rain are expected until Monday afternoon, as the German Weather Service (DWD) announced on Sunday in Offenbach.

40 to 70 liters per square meter could fall there between Sunday evening and Monday afternoon. This amount of precipitation usually falls in these regions throughout the month of August. Locally, up to 100 liters per square meter of rain are also possible. Cellars could therefore fill up or streets could be flooded.

After a short summer appearance with lots of sun on Saturday, the weather turned cloudy at the beginning of the week. While only a few showers and thunderstorms are forecast for the west and south-west on Monday, people, especially in the east and south-east, have to be prepared for more rain. The temperatures are between 20 and 24 degrees Celsius.

But the weather is already improving for Tuesday. At similar temperatures, according to the forecast of the DWD, it will be largely sunny and cloudy, the rain clouds should then have withdrawn. dpa
