LAST MINUTE: Elektra agrees to pay 2,772 million pesos to the SAT for a tax debt

Grupo Elektra, Ricardo Salinas Pliego’s company, paid the Tax Administration Service (SAT), a tax credit of 2,772 million pesos, for a resolution of the Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN). This debt corresponds to the 2006 fiscal year and is for Income Tax (ISR).

At the beginning of the year, the then head of the SAT, Raquel Buenrostro, declared that the companies of Grupo Salinas, the conglomerate that groups Grupo Elektra, Banco Azteca and Televisión Azteca, owed close to 40,000 million pesos to the treasury.

Grupo Salinas had said that it would resort to the corresponding instances to settle its differences with the tax authorities on the collection of these debts, which it considered “erroneous and excessive”, but it agreed to pay the tax credit corresponding to the 2006 fiscal year for ISR, then that the Second Chamber of the SCJN ruled in favor of the SAT.

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said this morning, during the morning conference, that he was grateful that the company complied with the court order.

“They made a good decision to withdraw amparos because it was already a judged thing and it was accepted by the company and that is very good. It is to act responsibly, with a civic and social dimension”, said the president during the conference, and recalled that there are still other pending legal proceedings with the Salinas Pliego company.

The businessman assured on his Twitter account that he had kept his word and that his companies “paid what they say (the SAT) they owed in taxes.”

The company, however, reported that it will continue the course of the processes that are still pending. “In relation to other lawsuits that are still in litigation, we are convinced that we are right and we have every right to disagree with the tax authorities, so we will continue with our defense of what we consider to be erroneous and excessive charges,” it reads. in a company statement.

Grupo Salinas companies are not the only ones that have disputes with the tax authority. Alsea filed an exclusive resolution lawsuit to suspend the execution and collection of the credit for 3,881 million pesos, derived from the acquisition of the Vips restaurant chain from Walmart, completed in 2014.
