Last Minute: Pemex is fined more than 40 million pesos for burning gas in the Ixachi field

The oil market regulator has sanctioned the state-owned Pemex for burning gas in Ixachi, one of the oil company's priority fields.

The National Hydrocarbons Commission (CNH) imposed a fine of 40,329,000 pesos on the company, the maximum amount allowed by the regulator, according to sources consulted by Expansión and Reuters. The fine was imposed in a plenary session of the regulator at the end of last May, after an investigation that lasted more than a year.

The state company, the sources have explained, has prioritized the production of crude oil from the field and has not taken advantage of the gas contained in the asset. Ixachi, located in Veracruz, is a gas producing field, but the administration of the state company has decided to put oil extraction first.

Pemex has installed two burners in the field to let go of the gas that it has not been able to or has not been able to take advantage of. And incidentally it is sending a large amount of pollutants into the atmosphere.
