Last Minute: Pemex records an explosion in a Tabasco pipeline

0

This afternoon there was an explosion in a pipeline of the state-owned Pemex in Huimanguillo, Tabasco.

The company has said it was sparked after an "excavator accidentally hit a pipeline, causing an ethane gas leak" that sparked an outbreak of fire.

The Pemex communication office ruled out that there are any reports of injuries resulting from the explosion and explained that the accident took place when the oil company's personnel were carrying out work on land that suffered damage due to heavy rains.

According to a statement published tonight, the pipeline where the accident took place runs from Ciudad Pemex to Cangrejera.

"So far no damage has been reported to people, facilities or the surrounding community; however, Petróleos Mexicanos continues to join efforts to restore normalcy in the area," Pemex said in a statement.
