LAST MINUTE: Walmart reaches agreement with Paramount+ to offer its streaming content

Walmart has struck a deal to offer Paramount Global’s streaming service to members of its Walmart+ membership, as the retailer attempts to expand into the streaming video market.

In recent weeks, Walmart has been in talks with other market players, including Disney and Comcast, to offer streaming entertainment on its membership service.

But, after the agreement reached with Paramount this Monday, customers affiliated with the Walmart loyalty program will now be able to have free access to the Paramount+ advertising plan, where they can enjoy movies like Star Trek, Paw Patrol, The Godfather, among others.

Separately, Paramount+’s ad-supported service costs $4.99 per month, while the ad-free Premium subscription costs $9.99 per month in the US.

“With the addition of Paramount+, we’re demonstrating our unique ability to help members save even more and live better by offering entertainment for less, too,” said Chris Cracchiolo, manager of Walmart+, in a press release.

Walmart+ offers members unlimited free same-day delivery, fuel discounts, and now streaming services, too.

In the United States, the program has been in existence for two years and costs $12.95 a month, about 260 pesos a month. And, to date, it has about 11 million customers.

Within e-commerce, the recent agreement seems to be a bet against other competitors such as Amazon, whose Prime membership also offers access to streaming content and even a part of the Amazon Music catalog.

Paramoun+, for its part, has about 43.4 million subscribers worldwide and plans to reach 100 million in 2024.
