Ferrari intended to return to the path of victory in his home race, at the 2022 Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix, where they premiered a special decoration commemorating the 75th anniversary since the creation of the firm. With the Giallo Modena very present in the cases, suits and cars of the Maranello duo, Charles Leclerc took a pole position that allowed him to dream of a second victory in Monza, as happened in 2019.

However, his first place in Saturday’s session came to nothing when the real fire came on Sunday, and after seeing Max Verstappen come back from seventh position, he had to settle for second place in the house of the tifosi. The Monegasque could have fought toe-to-toe with the Dutchman, but a safety car that never ended meant that he had no options to attack on the last lap, when the stewards had already removed Daniel Ricciardo’s abandoned car.

When he got out of the F1-75, he was asked if the finish had been frustrating, and he didn’t hesitate to admit: “Yes, the finish was frustrating. I wish we could have finished the race, but unfortunately we finished second there so what happened before.”

“It’s a shame, but in general today I gave everything to be second,” he continued. “I wish I could have won in front of the amazing tifosi we have here, but I couldn’t. We finished second so I’m not too happy with the race so we’ll work on it.”

Charles Leclerc is one of the only drivers who can stop Max Verstappen’s wing at the next race in Singapore, and when asked if they stopped too early at Monza to protect himself from what the Dutchman did, he said: “To To be honest, we didn’t know what they were going to do behind the scenes, so we went with that.”
“I think the pace was quite good today. We will have to study it, but I think we were quite strong, but it was not enough,” said Ferrari.
