New York continues to be one of the most dreamed of cities to live in for many inhabitants of the planet. Inside this huge and impressive city we can find everything we imagine: from impressive skyscrapers, to parks full of charm or escape routes to relax. This is the case of the recently opened Little Island, a new park for stressed New Yorkers to spend time relaxing.
It is the latest and most modern public park to open in New York City. With 9,000 square meters of recreation, it is elevated above the Hudson River, and has been financed thanks to the contributions of millionaire Barry Diller, executive director of IAC / InterActiveCorp.
An abandoned dock
The Big Apple has many abandoned places that little by little are being reconditioned to give it a new use where citizens can enjoy. The new Little Island is located in the Meatpacking District, built on Pier 55, which was previously abandoned.
The interesting thing is that it is a floating park that has used several of the dock structures to get up. It is made up of more than 132 concrete columns, with different heights that emerge from the water itself and that form the image of giant tulips in view of visitors.
The design, carried out by the architect Thomas Heatherwick, tries to keep in tune between modernity and nature , creating a space of more than 9,000 square meters where you can rest.
Did you know that Little Island is a perfect square floating on the Hudson? At only 2.4 acres, its hilly topography is what makes it seem a lot bigger than it actually is. @mathewsnielsen architect Signe Nielsen shares more about this in our audio tour: https://t.co/N1h9Qx8NeR pic.twitter.com/kWgRzMbU2P

In the background, visitors to New York’s Little Island can enjoy the best views of the city’s mythical skyscrapers while sharing entertainment in its large gardens designed to enjoy the tranquility that the big city does not give to locals and locals. tourists themselves.
Relaxation of COVID measures
The new park in New York City was inaugurated just coinciding with the relaxation of measures in the fight to eradicate the coronavirus in the city.
The first visitors were really excited about this new place of oxygen for the city, which will be maintained by the millionaire Diller during the first 20 years of the park’s existence.
