A Frenchman unknown to the police threatened police officers in Marseille with a knife on Saturday. No information was given as to whether the attacker was killed or not.

Marseille – In the southern French port city of Marseille, a man threatened police officers in front of the town hall with a knife. The security forces then shot the attacker and injured him, a police spokeswoman said on Saturday.

France’s Interior Minister Gérald Darmanin wrote on Twitter that the man had been “neutralized”. “Neutraliser” can mean “switch off” or “kill” in French, among other things. When asked, the police initially did not specify whether the man was killed or not.

Darmanin said on the spot that the attacker was French and was not known to the police. According to him, a police officer was also injured in the incident on Saturday morning. But this one is doing very well. Marseille Mayor Benoît Payan said the attacker had been warned several times but approached the police again. In the case investigations were initiated. dpa
