Maradona's love for F1 and MotoGP

The news of the death of Diego Armando Maradona at the age of 60 caused a worldwide commotion and from Motorsport.com we wanted to remember the soccer star in the field that touches us, motor sports.

There have been many moments of the Argentine linked to the smell of fuel, although there was one that did not materialize but without a doubt it would have remained for history. In 1987, he received an invitation to drive the Williams Formula 1 car, but the footballer’s commitment to the Italian Cup with Naples, the team where he was playing at the time, prevented this possibility.

In February 2014, the “Ten” shared a soccer match in Dubai, where he lived at the time, with Fernando Alonso . He has also had encounters with Michael Schumacher , to whom he dedicated a message on social networks a few years ago for his birthday wishing him “strength” for his serious accident.

That same year, together with Valentino Rossi , he celebrated the Italian’s victory in the San Marino MotoGP Grand Prix , as he appears in the main photo of this article, and said: “It is always fantastic to return to Italy, and to see Valentino here, surrounded by “From all his fans, it’s a real pleasure. He’s a prominent part of the history of this sport and I didn’t want to miss this! I’m so happy to be here, it’s something I’ve been waiting for a long time.”

Years later, at the 2015 MotoGP Argentina GP , Rossi achieved victory and celebrated with Maradona’s jersey on top of the podium at Termas de Río Hondo.
