Marko thinks Alonso can still win at Aston Martin

Resisting in Formula 1 as a regular driver for more than a year is something that few can do due to the demands of the teams, but doing it for almost two decades sounds almost impossible. The one who has done it is Fernando Alonso, who before the summer break became an unexpected protagonist in the transfer market, and it is that a single day after the 2022 Hungarian Grand Prix he announced that he would leave Alpine, with whom everything was ready to renew, to embark on a new adventure at Aston Martin as a replacement for Sebastian Vettel.

The withdrawal of the four-time world champion shook up the silly season , since with the seat he left free in the Silverstone team for 2023 it caused a chain movement that has splashed McLaren, Alpine, Oscar Piastri and Daniel Ricciardo, who are involved in a legal dispute to get these pilots in a hole.

Be that as it may, the only one who is already clear about his future is Alonso, who will wear the green colors next season alongside Lance Stroll, although many have questioned that with his age, just turned 41 , he cannot star in great performances.

One of the most authoritative voices in the paddock, Red Bull team adviser Helmut Marko , spoke about the man from Oviedo. The Austrian recognized that he continues to be surprised by the two-time champion and what he does in Formula 1: “He is very fast, the races he does are incredible.”

“I even think he can still win a grand prize,” Marko said in an interview with Oe24.at. “The question is whether Aston Martin can offer you a suitable package.”

From the beginning of the 2023 season, Fernando Alonso will get behind the wheel of the Silverstone car to seek his long-awaited three-time championship, although it will not be easy, not only because of how complicated it is to make the jump from ninth place to the first team in the Great Circus, but only Juan Manuel Fangio and Giuseppe Farina got the title with more than 41 years, and on all occasions it was in the 1950s.
