Marquez: "It looks like the second Repsol Honda will be for Mir"

Marc Márquez has stayed away from the circuits since, at the last Italian GP, he decided to get off the bike indefinitely. The reason? Undergo a new surgery on his right arm , with which he hopes to end once and for all the limitations that he has dragged on since his crash in Jerez at the beginning of 2020.

Starting today, DAZN offers an interview with the eight-time world champion, in which he confirms, as seen in previously broadcast videos, that he is returning to training to regain some muscle tone, albeit with superlative caution.

“At the end of August, after twelve weeks of the operation, I have a CT scan, where an evolution in the bone has to be seen and it will give us the answer as to whether we can increase recovery or not,” he explains.

“If for X reason I have to extend the recovery for two weeks, I will have to do it, because I cannot throw away all the work that has been done so far,” adds the Honda rider . From his surroundings they have not tired of repeating that it is a long process in which calm must prevail to favor a complete recovery . As the pilot himself said on several occasions, “there are many races, but there is only one body”.

“When the doctors say ‘ok’ and I’m strong enough, one of the first things I’ll do is ride a motorcycle, because that’s where the specific muscles you need will work best and we’ll be able to reach 100% as soon as possible.” .

Marc also analyzes the transfer market in this interview, in a summer that is turning out to be especially moved by the exit of Suzuki from the championship at the end of this season. “It’s been an interesting year in terms of signings. There are a lot of movements. The riders who used to be Honda have moved, my brother to Ducati, Pol to KTM…”, says the #93.

“There are two free places left [in Honda]. One will be occupied by Alex Rins, a great rider, as he showed at Silverstone, where he was at a great level. It seems, they say, that the next Repsol Honda will be for Joan Mir. There is nothing confirmed, at least as far as I know,” he reveals.

For him, the arrival of new names to the brand is not a trivial matter. “I look out for Honda and for the team. My intention and hope is to see Honda at the top again, not like I have seen them in recent races. We need teamwork, so that information is not lost along the way and that the pilots give their 100%”.

But he acknowledges that the pilots need “help” from Japan . “We need some change. All the riders are suffering. What I have ridden this year was also suffering; not only because of my arm, but because I didn’t feel good on the bike either, and that is where we are forced to do a change to fight for the World Cup in the coming seasons”, he concludes.
