Marc Márquez and Jorge Lorenzo battled together on numerous occasions throughout their career, and from rivals became teammates in 2019, before the latter chose to retire at the end of an injury-plagued final year.

Speaking ahead of Lorenzo’s induction into the MotoGP hall of fame, Marquez said Lorenzo was “one of those special guys” on the grid.

“You can be a great driver and you can be a champion,” Marquez began. “And he was one of those special guys with a strong personality.”

“You can agree or disagree, but he had his personality and he was very strong.”

“Of course, when he was in his sweet moment, he was almost unbeatable and he handled the bike in an unbelievable way.”

The #99 joins several of his rivals in the MotoGP hall of fame, alongside iconic names like Valentino Rossi, Dani Pedrosa and Casey Stoner, as well as Mick Doohan, Kenny Roberts and Giacomo Agostini.

“I have great respect for him because I learned a lot of things fighting Jorge [Lorenzo,” Marc said in Jerez.

“Of course when he was my teammate it was a different atmosphere, he had a different mentality.”

However, the Cervera rider did not venture to make a list of the best MotoGP riders.

“It is impossible to make a ranking. I don’t like it because each driver has his period and each driver has his years.

“And when Lorenzo was running well, he was driving very, very fast and very consistent with a strong personality. That’s what makes the difference.”

Last weekend, Lorenzo made his Porsche Supercup debut at Imola on the Formula 1 support undercard and finished 30th as he prepares to embark on a full-time campaign in the Porsche Carrera Cup, amongst other television appearances. as a motorcycling expert.
