Márquez marks territory in Germany

Sachsenring is to Marc Márquez what Roland Garros is to Rafa Nadal . Since he claimed his first victory there in 2010, in his final year at 125cc, no one has beaten him at that circuit. The ilerdense is the true king of the German Grand Prix. He has 10 consecutive victories at this circuit, seven of them in MotoGP. His fetish circuit has never lost a race since he was promoted to the premier category, since last year this test was not contested due to the Covid-19 pandemic. And this Friday he set the best free practice time for the German GP. So the Spanish champion threatens another epic.

Only Giacomo Agostini surpasses him with 13 victories. The difference is that at that time the drivers competed in two categories (350cc and 500cc). However, the Italian was not able to win more than 10 times in a row. Marquez has before him the opportunity to break a record for the best driver of all time. Although it is not at its best, Honda’s improvements seem to be paying off.

The sixteenth-century world champion in the premier category has managed to set the best time in the first practice sessions of the weekend. This result had only been achieved in practice 3 of the French GP. Although in the following free practice he would be twelfth, this first place coincides with the premiere of some wings in the fairing, more rounded than those he had until now. Honda’s improvements are starting to pay off and its star rider begins to smile.

Germany, Marquez territory

Although the home race was Montmeló’s , this weekend’s is as if it were at home too. He knows this circuit to perfection and the results show that it works like a charm. Despite the three zeros in the last three races, Marc arrives very motivated and physically better after completing 87 laps in the tests in Catalonia. He himself recognized after these tests that he needed such a day to have continuity.

For this reason, and despite the last three falls, Márquez arrives in Germany ready to take a leap and fight to be higher. He is an ambitious driver and therefore will try to prolong his love affair at Sachsenring. The one from Cervera wants to regain the good feelings he had before the severe injury to the humerus in his right arm, which has kept him out of the circuits for so long. In addition, it is not being Honda’s year and a victory or a podium here would allow them to gain confidence for the remainder of the World Championship.
