Márquez: "The rain leaves everything more open"

Despite not being able to fight to get on the podium, the Honda rider left Japan with a huge smile on his face and a clear conscience for the work done over the weekend, but, above all, for the level of intensity that could apply to his driving during the race.

In one of the most demanding circuits on the calendar for the upper body of the body, Marc Márquez was not only able to finish fourth, but also carried out an attack maneuver with only three laps to go to overtake Miguel Oliveira, a clear indicator of the health of his right arm, the one he has undergone four operations in the last two years.

As he acknowledged, the early suspension of one of the rehearsal sessions on Friday, and the impact that the storm that settled in Motegi had on Saturday, lent a hand to the Catalan, who was able to shoot without sparing any effort. A week later, the weather forecast predicts water, water and water during most of the training sessions scheduled in Buriram .

“In the rain, everything is very open. Racing becomes less physically demanding, and the limitations of the bike are less noticeable,” said Márquez, who, despite this, remarked that he does not see himself fighting for victory on Sunday, as if he did in the 2018 and 2019 editions, the two that have been held on this track, in which he climbed to the highest step of the podium: “This year we didn’t get here like before; I don’t think I can fight for victory until the last lap”.

In Japan, the Spaniard combined the use of the aluminum swingarm made by Kalex, with the carbon one, made by Honda. The first used it for the sessions with the dry track; the second, when the asphalt was soaked, basically, on Saturday.

“Here we will divide it the same as in Motegi. We have not yet decided what we will do in the future. It is not the ideal way to achieve the best results, but it is the best way to work for 2023”, closed the one from Cervera .
