Márquez, without expectations in Italy: "We have to see the situation and where we are"

Before the serious injury to his right arm he suffered in 2020 and the complications derived from that fracture, in addition to the recurrent episodes of diplopia, Marc Márquez was usually the driver who set the bar for every Grand Prix weekend.

However, the Honda rider has not yet achieved a podium so far this season and his best result is still fourth place in Jerez, all while Honda has not managed to make its new RC213V work as expected after a hopeful preseason.

The Mugello circuit, where the Italian Grand Prix is being held this weekend, the eighth stop on the calendar, with its long straights, which require maximum engine power, will be a new test to see if the prototype of the Japanese house achieves a set-up that allows the brand’s riders to express their virtues without being penalized by the difficulty that focuses on the front end.

“Mugello is always a great circuit to ride, it’s very fast and when you’re at full speed on the main straight with a MotoGP bike, it’s a great feeling,” admits Márquez in the preview of the Italian weekend.

Despite the fact that Marc has experienced some memorable races on the Tuscan track, the current moment does not invite optimism for the Catalan rider.

“We will see what is possible this weekend, we have to get there and see what the situation is and where we are,” he warns.

After the Le Mans race, two weeks ago, in which he managed to finish sixth after passing all the laps, except the first, without being able to overtake, Marc made some not-so-optimistic warnings, and now he chooses to close ranks with the members on his side of the box to try to move the situation forward.

“I know that if we continue working with my team, we can once again find out where our potential lies,” the Cervera man releases enigmatically.

Espargaró: “Let’s go to work”

For Márquez’s team-mate, who after a strong start to the season in Qatar, with a podium, his performance has been fading at the same rate as the bike’s performance, the period that opens with the Italian Grand Prix is an opportunity to “work” and find solutions, not in vain in the period of ten days the pilots must face two race weekends and an official test.

“Last year at Mugello we had a bit of a difficult race, so this year I hope we can have a calmer Italian GP,” explains Pol Espargaró.

“I have continued to train hard at home to be prepared. We couldn’t get what we wanted in France, so the goal is of course to come back stronger here in Italy,” he adds.

“Now we have two races and a test in two weeks, there will be a lot of time on the bike for us, which is good. We are going to work”, settles the rider from Granollers .
