Martín: "The mistake in choosing the tire has condemned us"

The Pramac-Ducati rider started fifth on the grid and crossed the finish line first at the end of the first lap, but was quickly overtaken by Jack Miller, ultimately the winner of the race, to whom he remained hooked for a good number of laps, until the Australian left him behind to end up losing the second position on the podium on the last lap, when he was passed by Brad Binder.

Despite everything, Jorge Martín returned to the podium that he had not achieved since the Catalan Grand Prix, in June, although a poor choice of rear tire, he opted for the medium unlike Miller and Binder, who went with the hard, deprived him of fight for victory.

“Today I’m finally super happy, before the warm up -which he led- I had a good feeling, I thought I had something more, even to win, but we didn’t choose the tire well”, acknowledged the Spanish rider.

“When ten laps have passed, the rear tire has already started to skid on the straight, I also made a mistake that almost caused me to fall and I lost a second”, recalled the man from Pramac.

“Despite everything, we have been very consistent almost every lap, but with the tire suffering, Miller has left us and things have been complicated for us,” he summarized.

“We lacked speed this season, but here we have been able to show it, since the Misano test we are going a little better and we have recovered sensations”.

Martín was happy for the podium, but he cursed the mistake of the compound. Saturday’s rain prevented the drivers from trying the hard tire and many went out to the race with that rubber without having tried it.

“In the first lap I started fifth and I passed first, a pity for the choice of the rear tire, with the hard one I would have fought with Jack for the victory”, he assures.

Jorge hopes to be able to take advantage of this part of the season with races on the other side of the world.

“I love Japan and the remaining races are similar, so I hope I can fight for the victory that we are looking for so much.”

Martín hopes to take advantage of this good result to stay in the front positions.

“I think I have the potential to always be in the top5 and we are going to continue working to always be there and be able to fight in the race, because it is the only way because if you start far behind on the grid it is impossible to fight for the podiums”, settled the boy from Saint Sebastian of the kings.
