McLaren explains why that change of decoration in the car

The Woking team unveiled its new MCL36 on Friday at its factory, and the new Mercedes -powered single-seater features more fluorescent orange and blue colors than in 2021.

The team said the decision to modify its traditional papaya orange was made because it wanted to do something special for the new era of F1, and saw how well its car in Gulf livery was received by fans at the Monaco Grand Prix in last year.

The modified orange is the same, the so-called Fluro Papaya orange that raced in Monte Carlo, along with what is officially called the New Blue .

Speaking about the livery change, McLaren F1 CEO Zak Brown said: “We’ve been evolving our livery since we went back to papaya.”

“We wanted something that was very vibrant and changed the hue of our papayas.”

“I think the livery changes we made last year, both in Monaco and Abu Dhabi, caused a great reaction from the fans and they liked to see a lot of energy.

“I think it has a look of speed and elegance, which we thought would be in keeping with the fast car that we’ve hopefully designed this year. So it’s just a natural evolution, and we’re also trying to make sure all of our corporate partners look good. in the car”.

While the colors are reminiscent of the Gulf livery that was run in Monaco, McLaren says the change has not been caused by any major sponsorship from the oil company.

“Gulf has not increased his commitment to us,” Brown added.

McLaren will use the exact same orange and blue across its IndyCar and Extreme E cars, and Zak Brown believes consistency across different categories will help the brand.

“We are McLaren Racing,” he said. “Formula 1 is clearly our center of gravity, if you will. But we think as one racing entity, so if we can bring our racing projects together, that’s a positive.”

“I think they look fantastic, and so does Extreme E and Esports, so we wanted people to be able to look at them and say ‘yeah, that’s a McLaren’, whatever category or race they’re watching.” .
