After the spread of crude corona conspiracy theories, Michael Wendler’s career is on the decline. Now he got a very special award.

Negative prize for conspiracy theories is awarded in Berlin – Michael Wendler can be “happy”
While other German celebrities can look forward to the Comedy Award, the German TV Award or the Bambi, Michael Wendler has to make friends with a very special award these days: “The golden aluminum hat”. But what’s behind that?
The “golden aluminum hat” is an award from the Berlin initiative of the same name. For six years now, the Negative Prize has been given to people who have spread conspiracy theories or fake news in Germany.
“Goldener Aluhut” has been awarded annually since 2015 – Michael Wendler among the winners for the first time
As the initiative announced on the night of Monday (October 11), the singer Michael Wendler, the party Die Basis and the blogger Boris Reitschuster (50) will receive awards in 2021. “The golden aluminum hat” has existed as a non-profit initiative since 2015. It has set itself the task of combating conspiracy theories and fake news in Germany with humor and education. “Between the vaccination campaign, the climate crisis, the federal elections and an ongoing pandemic, not only are right-wing ideologies, disinformation and conspiracy narratives growing, but they also pose a serious threat to our democratic society,” said the initiative when this year’s winners were announced on their website with.
Michael Wendler is “Conspiracy Theorist of the Year” because of the Telegram channel
In the category “Conspiracy theories in general”, pop singer Michael Wendler won for “the propagation of conspiracy narratives and the unreflective sharing of Reich citizen ideologies on his Telegram channel”, according to the organization in Berlin. The former pop singer repeatedly spread his questionable views on the corona rules and vaccinations * on the social media platform.
In the “Politics” category, the Basic Democratic Party of Germany (Die Basis) was awarded “for its program with content from the lateral thinking movement and proximity to anti-constitutional groups”. Other winners are Boris Reitschuster and Dr. Bodo Schiffmann (53).
Corona conspiracy theorist Xavier Naidoo among the winners of recent years
Prize winners in recent years have included the singer Xavier Naidoo (50) and the “Compact” magazine. Like Michael Wendler, Naidoo repeatedly spread wild conspiracy theories * during the corona pandemic and was most recently criticized for this by DSDS winner Beatrice Egli (33 / “My Heart”).
The golden aluminum hat 2021 will be awarded on October 30th in Berlin-Neukölln. Prize winners who do not receive their awards in person will be auctioned off by the organizers for the benefit of the foundation after the show.
Michael Wendler could not personally accept the “golden aluminum hat” for various reasons
It is quite possible that Michael Wendler will not come to the award ceremony: The American by choice would need a corona vaccination for his return trip to the USA. Otherwise he would no longer be allowed to enter the States. The avowed pandemic opponent is not vaccinated.
