Miller returns to the podium in Thailand: "Another positive weekend"

Jack Miller continues his good trend since the Barcelona mid-season tests. The Australian driver, who regularly fights for the top positions, returned to the podium at the Thai Grand Prix, after having fought face to face with Miguel Oliveira. Finally, the man from Townsville was unable to repeat the feat of last week’s Japanese Grand Prix, in which he won, and had to settle for second place on the podium in Buriram.

The truth is that, as soon as it started to rain heavily, Miller was in all the pools to win the race ; something of which he himself was aware. “When we get to these types of circuits and unknown conditions, I already know who is going to be fast. And I knew that Miguel and Zarco would be, because we are the ones who adapt quickly. I was also a bit nervous with Petrucci, because I thought he was going to be able to come back”, he commented in the press conference after the race.

“Another positive weekend,” he valued. “The bike has worked very well and we have been improving session by session. It happened like in Motegi; I was disappointed with qualifying, but we were able to come back and get a great result”.

Although he finished second, he led for much of the race, particularly in the first two-thirds of the distance. When he overtook him, Miller was able to stay on the wheel of his KTM, but was not quite in a position to attempt the overtake. “It was a very fair fight with Miguel. I made it as difficult as I could for him, but I made a mistake. In the last sector I took more risks, but my bike moved a lot”.

“He was unbeatable,” he explained, although he added that “there was a lot of spray.” “You didn’t see the braking points well, etc. When I followed Miguel I had to brake with a certain margin, because I didn’t know where exactly the braking point was.”

“I think it was just the set-up,” he said when asked about the strengths and weaknesses of what will be his bike in 2023. Miller referred to the differences between the two frames as a “tug of war” in which one he was going faster in certain sectors and the other made up time for him in the rest.

Now he faces two very special weeks, since next weekend he will marry his girlfriend and, the next, he will race on his home date: the Australian Grand Prix.
