Mir: "If the acceleration doesn't improve I won't be able to fight for victories"

Alcañiz.- The 2020 world champion, despite not having the same means as most of his rivals this season, started as one of the favorites to victory due to the great pace he had shown on Saturday. But the first penalty was having to start 7th, from the third row of the grid, which deprived him of being with those in front from the start.

“I thought it would be a better day when I got up in the morning, but I have to settle for a podium. Starting 7th, with the equality that exists now, and having to pass Jack (Miller) and Aleix (Espargaró), is never easy. I have to look hard for life to make an overtaking. I have to wait for a mistake from the rival, because due to acceleration I’m always late”, the Spaniard explained his frustration.

“I am satisfied with the work, but I would like to fight for victories. Once I was third. I think my pace was the same or a little better, not at the end of the race, than that of Marc (Márquez) and that of Pecco (Bagnaia), but I have already arrived late to that position to be able to catch up with them, I did not arrive”, he valued .

“It’s a shame. I hope we can improve the acceleration issue, otherwise it will be difficult to fight for victories this year”, warned the world champion.

Precisely, the lack of victories is the biggest handicap to be able to revalidate the title. But Mir has an explanation for all this: the lack of speed.

“Last year, Morbidelli won the race riding a high 1:49. This year all the laps have been at 1.48 pace. The package and the bike we have is the same as in 2020. Last year I didn’t win, this year we have been better with the same thing. I hope to be able to start on equal terms in the next races and to be able to use the rear device in Misano, which is always a great help because everyone has it. And from here to work on the details of the bike that will arrive”, he explained.

Although Suzuki has the rear device to lower the suspension on corner exits and gain acceleration, Mir did not use it this weekend.

“I haven’t used the holeshot here, I wanted to ride it, but it didn’t quite go well, it didn’t quite work well at all”, settled the Balearic runner.
