Morbidelli: "I see Quartararo at a disadvantage because of the bike"

The British Grand Prix seems to have reignited the fight for the MotoGP title. It is true that, at Silverstone , Fabio Quartararo took a point from his closest rival, Aleix Espargaró, who ran with a broken heel, and the difference rose to 22 points .

But it is also true that now Pecco Bagnaia seems to run like a perfectly oiled machine. The Italian repeated victory, after the one achieved in Assen just before the summer break, and has cut 42 points from Quartararo in these two races. They are still 49 units apart, but the trend is clearly in favor of the Ducati rider.

If there is someone who can make an assessment of this battle, it is, without a doubt, Franco Morbidelli. The Yamaha rider shares a box with ‘El Diablo’, but at the VR46 Riders Academy he also trains daily with Bagnaia. He knows the duo very well, but also all the secrets of the M1.

The Italian’s opinion was sought after the Silverstone race, but he tried not to get too wet, perhaps because of the connections that unite the two: “It’s a good fight, it’s a tough fight. It’s sure to be interesting and the fans will have fun watching it” .

When he was pressed to delve a little deeper into the matter, he made an analysis that does not need too many interpretations: “If I go beyond my position and look at it from the point of view of a fan, it is a battle between very strong drivers, in where two have a great machine at their disposal and the other seems capable of pushing what he has to the limit in an incredible way”.

Despite the margin in the standings, at the moment the Italian from Yamaha sees his teammate at a disadvantage, precisely because right now the M1 does not seem to be up to par with the Desmosedici GP or the Aprilia RS-GP .

“Honestly, I see Fabio in a disadvantaged position, solely because of the characteristics of the bikes. When your bike is a little slower on the straight, you are always at a disadvantage in the battle, but even so, he is always there in front and he has shown who can do great things,” he concluded.
