Morbidelli: "Whoever is calm about the future is stupid"

Le Mans.- The news of the abandonment of Suzuki, advanced by Motorsport.com, surprised absolutely all the members of the MotoGP paddock, who this Thursday met for the first time at Le Mans after knowing the information on Monday of last week .

An announcement, confirmed this Thursday, will considerably shake up the rider market, which is currently in a boiling state, with only three riders with a contract signed for 2023 right now: Marc Márquez (Honda), Brad Binder (KTM) and Franco Morbidelli, to whom we asked for an assessment of the decision made by Suzuki to unilaterally break the five-year contract with Dorna.

“Seriously that the contract was for five years and that it was already signed? My goodness! Personally I think this news is not good for the sport, it is not something positive that something like this happens. Above all, it is very ugly to see how so many professionals are going to lose their jobs from one day to the next. Suzuki is a very good team, very strong, and to say that it is not going to continue despite having a contract is something incomprehensible. A very bad situation, a ugly episode”, underlined the Italian.

A maneuver that, in addition, will completely condition the pilot market for next season.

“This new situation is going to shake up the market, surely, because a world champion rider has been left without a bike, and another very strong rider in the category has been left without a bike, so this changes a lot of things.”

With a valid contract for next year, Morbidelli has no worries about his future.

“About the future nobody can have any certainty, who today is certain of what the future will bring? Nobody. Whoever is calm about the future is stupid.”

In that sense, and despite the fact that there are not enough rumors in all directions, having one more year of signed contract allows the Italian to see the situation calmly.

“Contractually I am calm, if we speak in terms of contract. But who knows,” settled the Roman runner.
