The coming-out of the teams, together with the preseason and the official tests, serve as a common thread towards the start of the course. However, it was not necessary to wait for the weekend to savor the return of the motorcycles. The MotoGP shakedown served as an appetizer for all those interested in new components and technical aspects of the prototypes, as well as the debut of newcomers to the premier class.

Chosen as the stage in charge of making the MotoGP engines roar again, Sepang will receive the protagonists of the 2022 season, among whom we find rookies and riders eager to regain regularity after a season characterized by casualties. In this phase are names such as Marc Márquez, recently arrived on the Malaysian circuit after recovering from his diplopia, and Franco Morbidelli, regular rider of the Yamaha factory team together with Fabio Quartararo.

Sepang will be followed by the urban circuit, whose tests are scheduled for February 11-13.

In this way, there are less than 24 hours left for the first day of official testing to kick off a season with uncertainty due to the extension of its calendar, with a total of 21 races.

When are the Moto2 and Moto3 2022 tests

  • Saturday, February 19 in Portimao (Portugal) from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Sunday February 20 in Portimao (Portugal) from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.
  • Monday, February 21 in Portimao (Portugal) from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

On the other hand, Portimao will host the official Moto2 and Moto3 tests from February 19 to 21 and, along these lines, the junior and intermediate categories of the motorcycling championship will also have the opportunity to ride for two days on their respective bikes during the tests. private.

During those test days, the absence of Raul Fernández and Remy Gardner will be noticeable. After winning the Moto2 title, the Australian rider is promoted to the premier class, where he will share a box with the Madrid native in the Tech3 team. Due to the same reason, the Moto3 grid will not feature Pedro Acosta’s number 37, who, after taking the crown of the minor category, will take part in the Moto2 ranks.

This first day of tests will start on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. and the action on the track will last until 7:00 p.m. Following the same practice but two hours apart at the start, Sunday and Monday will follow.
