MotoGP – Cecchinello: "We expected more from Alex Márquez"

The Spanish rider made his debut last year in MotoGP with the Repsol Honda team, where he was the only rider of the brand to get on the podium – twice – in all of 2020. HRC renewed him for two seasons, but sent him to the LCR team with official support.

Márquez has not had a simple debut with Lucio Cecchinello ‘s team. After being injured in pre-season testing, he has only scored points in five of the first nine races, with a sixth in France in the rain as his best result.

The #73 is being one of the riders that is suffering the most from the problems of the RC213V , a bike that he described as critical and that has already hit him 10 times this year.

“With Alex we are trying to progress,” Cecchinello explains to the official MotoGP website. “We expected better results, but we also have to recognize that every time you start a project with a new pilot, it can sometimes take time to establish the proper communication with the engineers so that they understand each other. At this moment we know that we have to improve and not We have doubts about Alex’s potential, we just need a little more time. It’s been a tough start to the year, but we’re working really hard.”

Things aren’t going well for the team’s other driver, Takaaki Nakagami, either. The Japanese is still chasing his first podium in the premier class, once again falling short this year in Jerez (4th).

“Nakagami has shown good potential in a couple of races, we expect a podium finish from him and I think it will come soon,” said the former Italian driver. “It feels great with the bike, it’s just a matter of finishing the set-up. We’ve received a lot of HRC parts to test and we’re happy to test for them, it’s an interesting job.”
