MotoGP changes the schedules of the Catalan GP races

0

MotoGP does not rest after visiting Mugello and faces its second consecutive Grand Prix this weekend. The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya returns to its usual June date after the last edition was held in September.

The practice schedule for Friday and Saturday remains the same, but as this weekend there is also F1 in Azerbaijan, the organizer has decided to make changes so as not to coincide on Sunday with the premier class race. Thus, the day will start with Moto3 at 11:20 (local time), MotoGP will be brought forward one hour (1:00 p.m.) and Moto2 will follow (2:30 p.m.). MotoE will close the day (4:00 p.m.).

Although some riders were already around this year with production bikes, the rest will find an important novelty, since what used to be turns 10 and 11 has been remodeled into one.

At the official press conference on Thursday, the leader of the championship, Fabio Quartararo , is summoned, together with Marc Márquez , Joan Mir , Johann Zarco , Miguel Oliveira and Jorge Martín , who reappears after missing the last three grand prix.

The circuit where the 2021 MotoGP Catalan GP is held

The Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya is located in Montmeló, a municipality about 25 km from Barcelona. In 1989, thanks to the efforts of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Montmeló mayor’s office and the Royal Automobile Club of Catalonia (RACC), construction of the track began.

In September 1991 it opened its doors to host the Spanish Formula 1 Grand Prix.

In 1992 it was incorporated into the MotoGP calendar, first as the European Grand Prix and since 1995 as the uninterrupted venue for the Catalan Grand Prix. It has capacity for more than 104,000 spectators, although on this occasion the capacity will be reduced.
