MotoGP: Darryn Binder will test with Yamaha in Brno

The South African is the first option that the Malaysian team is considering with a view to next season, a year that has been complicated after Petronas announced this weekend his goodbye to the World Cup. The oil company will not only stop acting as the main sponsor of the SRT , but will also close the two structures with which it competes in Moto2 and Moto3.

This slam, together with that of Maverick Viñales, who resigned in the second year of his contract with Yamaha and who in 2022 will defend the colors of Aprilia, have placed the SRT executives in a very difficult position.

On the one hand, due to the decision of Viñales, which will promote Franco Morbidelli to promote to the official formation, alongside Fabio Quartararo. And on the other, because the goodbye of Petronas leaves a significant gap in financial terms. That is leading SRT executives to look for imaginative formulas like Binder’s, which would arrive catapulted by the economic support that accompanies it.

The 23-year -old from Potchefstroom , brother of Brad, winner of the last race in Spielberg, currently competes in the lower class for Petronas Sprinta Racing, one of the teams that will disappear. He currently occupies sixth place in the general table, with 86 points, 110 less than Pedro Acosta, the leader.

Binder will get on the standard Yamaha R1 in Brno and not the MotoGP M1 since the tuning fork brand has no concessions to do unlimited tests and would have had a day of testing.
