The Suzuki rider suffered a spectacular crash on the first lap of the last Austrian Grand Prix (you can see it again here), in which he was catapulted off his bike, crashing violently into the ground. On impact, the Spaniard fractured the talus in his right foot and damaged several tendons in the area, causing him to miss the San Marino GP, where he was replaced by Kazuki Watanabe .

Although he tried to run in Aragón , two weeks later, the pain and lack of mobility in his brake foot made him decide not to participate in that race or in the next two, Japan and Thailand , where he was replaced by Takuya Tsuda and by Danilo Petrucci, respectively.

This Thursday, Suzuki announced that the Mallorcan’s intention is to travel to Phillip Island, where the Australian Grand Prix will be held next week, the antepenultimate event of the course. Beforehand, Mir will undergo a final medical check-up that must certify that his ankle is in minimum conditions that will allow him to get back on the bike.

“It seems that everything is going better, and the truth is that the comments of the doctors as a result of the last check-ups left me very happy,” says Joan Mir in the official note sent by the Hamamatsu brand.

“The injury is healing well, and it seems that the recovery I’ve been making has been worth it. I’m not 100% yet, but I have the feeling that the time has come to return, because things are much better than in the last few weeks”, adds the 2020 world champion, who has not yet managed to get on the podium this year.

With only three races to go before the World Cup closes in Valencia, the #36, which in 2023 will wear the HRC suit, as a neighbor of Marc Márquez’s workshop, occupies 15th place in the general points table.
