MotoGP – Márquez leads the FP1 in Thailand; trouble for Aprilia

Buriram.- After two days of continuous rain, the water receded this morning, a circumstance that allowed the asphalt to dry out to a great extent, even though the surface was extremely slippery. In such delicate circumstances, Márquez came out on top and claimed the best time of all, with a margin of 32 thousandths over Fabio Quartararo, who was more comfortable on this track than in Motegi.

The Frenchman, who played for victory with Márquez until the last corner in the last visit to the World Cup (2019), was another 33 thousandths ahead of Jack Miller, who managed to get into the top ten in extremis, something they could not make other illustrious names.

The fourth fastest was Luca Marini, still less than a tenth from the head, while Alex Rins, one of the most solvent in this staging, finished fifth.

Pecco Bagnaia was sixth, two tenths behind Márquez and with ten thousandths of a margin over Miguel Oliveira, seventh. Franco Morbidelli, eighth, completed one of the best joint training sessions of the official Yamaha team so far this year, while Enea Bastianini (ninth) and Jorge Martín (tenth) closed a top ten that, for now, marks the cut between the group of runners who provisionally have a direct place in the second qualifying screen (Q2), and those who do not.

Of the latter, Cal Crutchlow’s eleventh position stands out for good, in what is his third appearance as a substitute for Andrea Dovizioso. For a different reason, the difficulties of the Aprilia riders also stand out: Aleix Espargaró could not get past 16th place, just ahead of Maverick Viñales (17th).

At this point, and given the meteorological instability installed in the Buriram area, it is not clear that the rain will allow the records of this first practice to be lowered in the second, already in the afternoon.
