MotoGP – Márquez: "This day will be important in the future"

The Honda rider had not completed a test day since before he was injured in July 2020, since a month ago in Jerez he cut off early after doing seven laps seeing his physical condition as a result of the falls he suffered there during the Grand Prix from Spain.

Márquez had this day marked in red and was the most active at Circuit de Barcelona. He finished 11th and gave 87 laps , hurrying until the last minute on the asphalt.

Beyond the result, the eight-time world champion left Montmeló with good feelings, although his physical condition made him finish physically at the limit.

“I’m devastated. I needed to ride on a day like this, to try things, but above all to do more and more laps. At the beginning it wasn’t bad, but then I couldn’t push. Now it’s time to rest and take another step in recovery. This day will be important for the future,” said #93 .

The Catalan rode with the new fairings that Honda is developing with a view to introducing them throughout this season and that he was left without thoroughly testing in Jerez.

“One of the things we wanted to see was the aerodynamics, because we still have a chance to get it homologated. I’ve noticed a few small differences. Maybe we’ll get it homologated to help us on fast tracks. We also tried a lot of other things on the bike with the black fairing, but it was not a prototype. It was just about understanding some concepts for the future. We will have time to work more on the Misano test, at the end of the summer.

HRC is trying to fix another problem with aerodynamics: the engine . There was nothing new in that section.

“The engine was exactly the same. Small differences in set-up to understand where we have the problem. It has not been a bad day. I was able to drive better than in the Grand Prix and that is positive,” he stressed.
