MotoGP – Martín: "The option of winning was not real in my head"

0

Impressive victory for Jorge Martín, in his sixth appearance in MotoGP, the Pramac-Ducati rider took the victory from pole, leading all the laps and after a red flag that forced a second start, both with the Spaniard from first place .

Martín took the lead from the first lap, setting a pace that left all his rivals behind, except Joan Mir until the final part, and allowed him to inscribe his name alongside those of Márquez, Lorenzo, Pedrosa, Crivillé, Sete, Mir , Rins and up to twelve winning Spanish drivers in the superior class.

In the previous one, in which Martín had already achieved the second pole of the season, after Doha, the man from Madrid was not aiming for victory and was talking, this time, about fighting for a podium, like the one he won in Losail in his second race in MotoGP.

“This possibility was not real yesterday in my head, nor did I expect the podium in Qatar when I got it. This time I thought I could make it to the top three, but I didn’t expect to win in any way”, confessed the runner.

“In the end it was a dry race and that gave me more options, since in the wet it would have been very difficult for me”.

“In the first start I was comfortable, but luckily we were able to start with new tires in the second start because the front tire didn’t give me much confidence, and I felt even better. I was able to get in front and shoot. Joan (Mir) has had a great race and he has been the only one who has kept up with me”, the winner recalled.

Martín was happy, but he did not look extremely euphoric despite entering the history of the greats.

“It’s just that I don’t believe it, I haven’t had time to get excited yet, let’s see in the next few days if this works out for me,” he said.

Despite being a rookie, Martín gave an exhibition of career management.

“I am young, but in a short time I have won all kinds of races, a championship and injuries have helped me a lot to learn to manage myself, both physically and in the race the tires. At the end I had no strength, but the advantage of two seconds that I took in the last part of the race was very good for me at the end. When I pressed to get away I had a couple of scares, but I was able to manage the last few laps well”.

Moto3 champion and with only two years in Moto2, Martín does not hide his ambitions.

“It’s another step in my big dream of one day winning the MotoGP World Championship, and it’s incredible to have won a race so soon,” he said.

Finally, the man from Madrid wanted to remember his grandfather, admitted to a medical center due to illness.

“Many kisses to my grandfather who is in the hospital, I hope he recovers very soon,” asked the new winner of the Styrian Grand Prix.
