MotoGP – Mir: "If Brivio returns to Suzuki I will be delighted"

Talk of a possible return of Davide Brivio to his former role as Team Manager at the Suzuki team, with which he won the world championship for teams and drivers, with Joan Mir, last year, has intensified in recent weeks.

The Italian left MotoGP to try out the adventure of Formula 1 this season, forming part of the executive leadership that has managed the destinies of the Alpine team, owned by Renault, a job in which Brivio has not been able to develop the experience accumulated in the motorcycle racing.

This lack of prominence is making Valentino Rossi’s ex-manager assess the possibility of returning to the MotoGP paddock.

“Davide’s departure was something that no one expected at Suzuki , his absence had to be made up for by (Shinichi) Sahara , it’s not his job to play that role. I suppose that he will have seen himself more burdened with responsibilities and this has been noticed more by him than all of us. But Sahara knows that it is necessary to put that figure back in order for everything to work a little better”, explained Joan Mir this Thursday when asked about the possible return of Brivio.

“Whether Davide comes or not is something I don’t know. I can only say that if he comes I will be delighted, he did a good job and if he leaves F1 to come back here it is because in his current job he will not have felt so comfortable”, added Mir.

However, there are only three races left to finish the season and at Suzuki nobody seems to be clear if Brivio is going to return or if another Team Manager is going to be signed, projecting a bit of lack of foresight.

“I think that throughout the year there are many things to do, during the season it is not the best time for these movements, I guess they are waiting for the end to make decisions. If it’s someone else they’ll have to teach and learn, I don’t think it’s something that can be done during the season”, says the Majorcan.

Looking ahead to the end of the week, the 2020 MotoGP world champion heads into the second round of Misano with a lot of confidence.

“We came into the last three races rested and well prepared. I am happy because I have been able to train well during these weeks without races. So have a good weekend. We were fast in the test (held in Misano) and in the previous race as well, but I lacked finishing at the end, perhaps because I didn’t choose the tires well. I have the potential for a lot more than what we achieved in the previous race (6th). Let’s see if we can be fighting for victory, which is our objective”, settles the Spaniard.
