The Italian, for his part, showed that he is still intractable by chaining his fourth consecutive pole, the fifth so far this year, after having to go through the first qualifying sieve (Q1).
This is the fourth rider in history to win pole position after being involved in the previous one, a toll motivated by the weather, very changeable this weekend in San Marino.
Bagnaia can do nothing but go out and win if he wants to squeeze the few options he has to avoid Quartararo’s wing, who has a 52-point advantage over Ducati’s when there are 75 at stake.
El Diablo would be champion if he crossed the finish line ahead of his rival, something practically unthinkable under normal conditions. Even more so if we take into account the shivering that seems to have entered the Yamaha rider , who was involved in the previous round (Q1) for the first time in 2021, and who was unable to get out of it.
Ducati, in addition, will make available to its leader a whole army of motorcycles that will make a screen. The first, that of Jack Miller, who will start second, just ahead of Luca Marini, who contributed to the cause of the Borgo Panigale record with his best Saturday.
Behind that first line monopolized by the Bolognese constructor will be Pol Espargaró (fourth), Miguel Oliveira (fifth) and Franco Morbidelli, who will close the second row.
In the third will be placed Marc Márquez (seventh), who went down twice in the same training session, Iker Lecuona (eighth) and Danilo Petrucci, another of those who could not finish practice. The same fate befell Johann Zarco, who closed the top ten.
Apart from the 15th place in Quartararo, among the riders who could not get into Q2, the two Suzuki starters stand out, Alex Rins (14th) and Joan Mir (19th), and Valentino Rossi, who in his last race ahead of his fans will start last (23rd).
