MotoGP – Rins: "I'm not going to think much about what others do"

The two Suzuki drivers failed to make it past Q1 , in a session that was marked by the presence of rain and changeable conditions. In the case of the Barcelona native, the reason for staying out of Q2 was a poor choice of tyres, which forced him to come back.

“It has been a difficult day at the office. We haven’t had much luck with the strategy. It is complicated in these changing conditions, it is not easy to make a good decision. We have gone out with the front medium and the rear soft wet. We have looked to see what windows we had to change bikes, but we have overheated the rear too much. With a half back it could have gone much better”, Rins explained.

Looking ahead to Sunday, it is not at all clear what the weather will be like at the time of the race.

“It’s a good challenge, we don’t know what the conditions will be on the grid tomorrow, but I’m feeling especially good in the dry. We’re not slow in the wet. I think we have to make a good plan for the race and see what options we have for wet tires and dry so as not to have to improvise so much on the bike”, he pointed out.

The Catalan is clear that he prefers a dry race.

“Assessing how the training sessions have gone, a dry race can go very well for me, realistically, I feel good on the bike. In the wet you never know, there is more risk. Right now I prefer a dry race”, he acknowledged.

Rins is coming off two consecutive zeros, which has left him in a delicate position in the championship. A third party would make things very difficult for him.

“We have to have an intelligent race and see how to deal with it on the bike, we have just made two zeros, we will have to be intelligent and see how far I can go. On a circuit like this, with water and so little grip, I’m not going to think too much about what the others do. I have to keep a cool head to be fully focused.”

Starting that far back will force you to tread carefully at the start, especially at the always tricky Dunlop chicane .

“I imagine it complicated, especially if it is in water. In the dry there will be less risk. We will have to take risks but without exceeding the limit and it is difficult to know how far we can go in the first corner, we have done it other times and we are going to try to do it once again, ”concluded the #42 .
