MotoGP – Rossi: "Not racing would not have brought Dupasquier back"

0

The worst news was confirmed at the stroke of 12:00 in Mugello, just after the Moto3 race, and with almost no time to react, Moto2 started. The MotoGP test was scheduled two hours later and it was finally decided to go ahead with it.

This decision caused some division among the riders, with their minds thinking more about Jason Dupasquier than about the 23 laps they had to face. Despite everything, the drivers concentrated as best they could and tried to abstract from what had happened to the Swiss the day before.

Among the pilots there were those who did not agree very much with running. Some, such as Pecco Bagnaia and Danilo Petrucci, questioned whether the start would have been taken if the affected person had belonged to the MotoGP grid.

However, Valentino Rossi, who has unfortunately been through this situation on several occasions, justified the championship’s decision not to suspend the race.

“In my opinion, if it had been a MotoGP rider in Dupasquier’s place, it would have been raced anyway,” said Il Dottore . “When Simoncelli’s accident happened, we stopped, but we were in the race. In Barcelona and Misano , with two similar cases, we kept running. I don’t think there is discrimination based on who it is.”

“Maybe it would have been right not to race, but what would have changed? We all wanted to pack up and go home. On Sunday we will race in Barcelona. But if someone had told me ‘there are no races’, I would have accepted it and left. to home”.

“When things like that happen you wonder if there’s any point in running and it probably doesn’t. It all takes a backseat. But even if it doesn’t run, it does, because it doesn’t change anything, it wouldn’t have given us Jason back.”

“Last night I already knew that Dupasquier’s situation was extreme, but it is one thing to know that, and another to know that he is dead. It was difficult for everyone, but we had to be focused because otherwise we could have represented a danger.”

The #46 defended the advances in security that have occurred in recent years and recognized that in the case of Dupasquier it was inevitable.

“On the one hand we have done a lot for safety, but more can be done and it is not enough. We have also done a lot with helmets, overalls and airbags. The problem comes from accidents like those of Simoncelli , Tomizawa , Jason. No there is nothing you can do there. When you have a driver lying on the ground in front of you it is impossible to do anything to avoid something like that, “he said.

“Moto3 bikes go too fast? Maybe there are too many riders, because they all go to slipstream and it is also very dangerous. However, it also happens in Moto2 and MotoGP. It is difficult to solve this. Surely if you go slower, even in MotoGP, it could be less dangerous, but honestly I don’t know how to do it”, clinched the #46 , who finished 10th this Sunday, his best result of 2021.
