Movies in the Stone (Movies at the Martin Luther King Monument)

Each summer, the Memorial Foundation, Inc. presents a free outdoor film series, “Movies on the Stone” at the site of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial in Washington DC. The films show human beings living the legacy of democracy, justice, hope and love during difficult situations. The films will be shown in the green space immediately south of the bookstore next to the Memorial. Attendees are encouraged to bring a lawn chair or blanket.

Movie Calendar 2016

June 16 – Belle (2013) PG Rating The illegitimate mixed-race daughter of a British admiral plays an important role in the campaign to abolish slavery in England.

June 23 – Fly By Light (2013) A group of teenagers board a bus bound for West Virginia and leave the streets of Washington DC to participate in an ambitious peace education program.

July 21 – Zootopia (2016) Rated PG. From the largest elephant to the smallest shrew, the city of Zootopia is a mammal metropolis where various animals live and thrive. When Judy Hopps becomes the first rabbit to join the police force, she quickly realizes how difficult it is to enforce the law.

August 25 – Race (2016) Classified PG-13. The biographical sports drama that tells the story of the African-American athlete Jesse Owens who won a record four gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

The Memorial is located in the northwest corner of the Tidal Basin at the intersection of West Basin Drive SW and Independence Avenue SW, Washington DC.

Parking is limited in this area and the public is encouraged to take public transportation.
The closest tube stations are Foggy Bottom and The Smithsonian. View information about parking near the National Mall.
