Trip interruptions are increasing. Now a cruise ship had to return to Bremerhaven due to Corona cases on board.

Bremerhaven – The cruise ship “MS Amera” canceled a trip to the Canary Islands because of several corona infections in the crew. The ship entered Bremerhaven on Tuesday morning – five days earlier than planned, said a spokeswoman for the organizer Phoenix-Reisen in Bonn on Tuesday.

According to her, about eight crew members had tested positive for the corona virus in regular tests. So far, no infections have been detected among the total of 349 passengers. Initially, several media reported.

The infected crew members disembarked and quarantined at a stop in Gran Canaria at the end of last week. After the corona cases, Phoenix-Reisen decided together with the shipping company to cancel the trip, said the spokeswoman. 82 passengers started their journey home by flights from Gran Canaria. The remaining 267 passengers disembarked in Bremerhaven on Tuesday. The cruise over Christmas and New Year’s Eve started on December 21st and was supposed to last until next Sunday (January 9th).

Because of the infections on board, Phoenix-Reisen also said it was canceling the next cruise on the “MS Amera”. Accordingly, the ship should set off on a 60-day Mediterranean cruise on Sunday.

In other parts of the world, too, ships recently had to interrupt their voyages due to corona cases on board – ocean cruisers from the companies Tui Cruises and Aida Cruises were affected. dpa
