The Japanese automaker Nissan announced that it will invest 700 million dollars over the next three years in Mexico, a country that it considers key in its global operations and where it claims to have led vehicle sales for 12 consecutive years.

The resources will be allocated to its Aguascalientes plant, as well as to improvements in automation and training of collaborators, the assembly company said in a statement.

With more than 60 years of manufacturing operations in Mexico, the Japanese firm was the leader in 2021 in the production and sales of vehicles in the country, which it considers one of its four main markets worldwide and where it has sold more than 6 vehicles to date. million units.

Recently, Nissan's strategy in the country has increasingly shifted towards electrification, spearheading the launch of the Kicks e-Power SUV.

The arrival of this battery version of the popular model occurs after almost eight years of having uncovered its Leaf electric model in Mexico. Since then the Japanese manufacturer had not added any new electric or hybrid model to its offer, until now.

Nissan brought the first electric vehicle to Mexico in June 2014. A couple of months later, the first sale occurred. That year, Nissan broke sales records with 291,729 units; however, the Leaf contributed less than 0.08% of the volume.
