No piercings, no tattoos: Why actress Eleonore Weisgerber wants to remain "unpunched"

No piercing, no tattoo, no cosmetic surgery: In the illustrated book “Unpunched beautiful” people describe why they do without anything that harms the body. Also there is actress Eleonore Weisgerber – an excerpt

Even if the subject of “body jewelry” was not nearly as present in the 1950s as it is today, in a certain sense I was confronted with it as a girl in elementary school: Some of my classmates wore earrings – a trend that was changing at the time just spread. But for me, even as a child, this form of jewelry was out of the question: firstly, I just didn’t like it personally, and secondly – then as now – I didn’t want to bow to a (group) constraint caused by a fad.

In the circle of my family or among my friends, I did not assume any outsider role in this regard, so that I felt no compulsion or pressure. Over the years, regardless of this, another argument against piercing the ears was added when I learned that our entire organism is represented in the ear and that I did not want any acupuncture points to be irreversibly destroyed. With ear clips there is a good alternative that does not have to be perforated and that I have made use of from time to time.

Fashion trend tattoos: Not an option for actress Eleonore Weisgerber

In the course of my acting career, I’ve seen some fashion trends come and go – around the turn of the millennium, piercings and tattoos became increasingly popular. I have never considered these forms of body ornament for myself either. There are two reasons for this: On the one hand, I am of the opinion that change or further development in life is pretty much the most important and most exciting task for us humans, everything changes – that’s the exciting thing – and I don’t want to look at one Tattoo or the scar of a piercing are visually thrown back on a situation that I have already left behind.

To person

Eleonore Weisgerber , born in Wiesbaden in 1947, moved to Central America with her parents when she was three years old. When she was about to start school, the family returned to Germany (Baden-Baden). She had her first ballet performances when she was ten years old and this was how she got into acting. From 1966 to 1969 she completed her acting training at the Max-Reinhardt-Schule in Berlin and made her television debut in the film “Bel Ami”. Numerous German TV productions followed, in which she participated – she became known to a wider audience through the ARD series “Praxis Bülowbogen” (1987–1996).

To this day , she is still regularly in front of the camera, can also be seen on theater stages, is active as a chanson singer and acts as a speaker in radio plays.

It is important to her to get involved with people who suffer from manic-depressive disorder. That is why in 2007 she founded the “In-Balance-Foundation for the education about bipolar disorders Berlin”. More information at www.inbalance-stiftung.de

On the other hand, the aspect of the integrity of the body is important to me. I see the body as a gift that should be treated with care. This applies to issues such as a healthy diet, regular exercise, mental activity and much more. Puncturing your skin or having ink injected under it are optical interventions in the integrity of the body (like cosmetic surgery) and in my opinion, no gain.

A life without piercings and tattoos: a radical way of life?

This attitude has not changed over the years to this day. Quite apart from the reasons listed here, it makes little sense for me as an actress to be pierced or tattooed for another reason: I am regularly offered roles in historical films, and tattoos can be an exclusion criterion for such roles.

My conviction to go through life “unpunched” also has to do with the fact that naturalness plays a major role in terms of my personal style: I think naturalness is simply beautiful, and the term “natural appearance” for me includes that no optical changes are made to a body that cannot be reversed.
