Tensions continue to exist between North and South Korea. Ruler Kim Jong-un can perform a nuclear first strike to destroy “enemy forces”.

Pyongyang – North Korea has declared a pre-emptive nuclear strike permissible by law. At the same time, the isolated country classified its status as a nuclear weapons state as “irreversible”, as reported by state media on Friday (September 9). The announcement came amid rising tensions between North and South Korea.

According to North Korea’s state news agency KCNA , the new law allows Pyongyang to “automatically” carry out a nuclear first strike and “immediately destroy enemy forces” if another state poses an imminent threat to North Korea.

North Korea according to Kim Jong-un irreversible nuclear weapons state

Leader Kim Jong-un said the new law “has made our country’s status as a nuclear-armed state irreversible.” Since January, North Korea has conducted a slew of weapons tests, including launching an ICBM. At the same time, North Korea blamed the hostile South Korea for the corona outbreak in the isolated country.

The country had previously dismissed South Korean government proposals for economic aid in exchange for its nuclear disarmament as absurd. Kim Yo-jong, Kim Jong-un’s sister, called South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol “really simplistic and childish”.

Yoon should have kept his mouth shut, the ruling Labor Party official was quoted as saying by the state-controlled media on Friday. In a speech marking his first 100 days in office on Wednesday, Yoon offered the strictly isolated neighboring country massive economic aid if it starts dismantling its nuclear weapons program.

Kim called her country’s nuclear weapons a matter of honor. “Nobody trades their destiny for corncakes.” Yoon made the wrong assumption that his plans could persuade her country to take measures for denuclearization. His initiative is therefore the “level of absurdity”.

US and South Korea demand denuclearization of North Korea

By “denuclearization” the USA and South Korea mean the complete dismantling of North Korea’s nuclear program, which has repeatedly made international headlines in recent years. By sticking to the program, North Korea is also accepting tough international sanctions that have hampered its economic development for years. (mse/afp/dpa)
