86 fatalities have now been confirmed, 43 people are still missing. After the collapse of a house in Florida, the authorities believe that there are no more survivors to be found in the ruins.

Miami – A good two weeks after the collapse of a skyscraper in the US state of Florida, the number of confirmed fatalities has risen to 86. The fate of 43 other people is currently not known, said the mayor of Miami-Dade, Daniella Levine Cava, on Saturday.

"Please pray for those who have lost loved ones and whose hearts are broken by this unspeakable tragedy, and for those who are still waiting."

The residential complex with around 130 units had partially collapsed on June 24th in Surfside near Miami for reasons that are still unexplained. The rest of the building, which was in danger of collapsing, was later deliberately blown up. The authorities assume that there are no more survivors to be found in the ruins. In the meantime, the rescue has been converted into a salvage operation.

On Friday evening, the number of confirmed fatalities was 79. dpa
