The Circuit de Catalunya has renewed the contracts that allow it to host the F1 and MotoGP world championships until 2026 . With regard to the latter, as of 2022 it could alternate with other circuits on the peninsula as stated in its agreement with Dorna Sports.

Spain will continue to have an F1 Grand Prix for the next five years. Months ago, Ramon Tremosa, had spoken of the importance of it. ” We cannot lose this continuity because if you leave the calendar it is very difficult to enter, ” he said. ” Our will is to remain a fixed place in the Formula 1 calendar and not enter into rotation, ” he added.

The one that could go into rotation is the MotoGP World Championship, although Barcelona is sure to host it in 2022. As announced by the Circuit of Catalonia on its social networks, “ the agreement signed with Dorna Sports ensures the holding of a minimum of three GPs during five years . In this way, Montmeló ensures its celebration for the 2022 season, while from then on it could alternate with other circuits on the peninsula ”.

Must be renewed

As part of their agreement with F1, and as we already have in OKDIARIO, the Montmeló City Council and the Barcelona City Council must make an immediate investment of 80 million euros in the remodeling of the circuit.

“As part of the agreement, the improvements to the track and facilities, first used by Formula 1 in 1991, before the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, will be carried out before the 2022 race, which will take place May 22. Part of these improvements will contribute to the circuit’s ambitious sustainability plans ”, announced F1 through its website.

“We are delighted to announce this agreement with the Circuit de Catalunya. I want to thank the promoter and the authorities for their enthusiasm and commitment to maintaining Formula 1 in Barcelona, with the improvements that will be made on the track and facilities, and continuing our long history together ”, said Stefano Domenicali. “Teams and drivers are always looking forward to racing the circuit and visiting Barcelona, and Spanish fans will continue to see their national heroes, Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz up close,” added the F1 CEO.

Carlos Sainz was precisely the first to celebrate the agreement between F1 and the Circuit of Catalonia. “Great news!! We will continue to enjoy the home GP !! Let’s go ”, wrote the Madrilenian on his social networks.
