The beginnings of any pilot in Formula 1 are complicated, and it matters little what has been won in the lower categories. One of the clear examples is that of Sebastian Vettel, who after triumphing in championships such as the Formula BMW ADAC or starring in outstanding performances in Macao, had to face the ferocity of the Great Circus.

However, from very early on he showed his curiosity about how the elite teams work, something that he likes in the teams, since that is how the great stars are formed, as was the German himself just a few seasons later.

Now, the four-time world champion has only a few races ahead of him until he says goodbye definitively to Formula 1, since he announced his retirement at the last Hungarian Grand Prix, but the one who was one of his bosses, Franz Tost , who has been in charge of AlphaTauri since its birth as Toro Rosso , explained what that stage of development was like.

“The questions he asked were really good for a young driver, and his big advantages were, first of all, that he was 100% committed to Formula 1, or to motorsport in general at that time, because he wasn’t just with BMW. , but also in Formula 3 and other competitions”, recalled the Austrian director.

“In Formula 1, when he came to us, he brought new wisdom, fresh ideas, he was very demanding and asked a lot of questions,” Tost continued. “He went into details, which is very important, and he was always in a good mood, although we had problems with the car at the beginning, but he carried the team forward.”

“As a result, he won with Toro Rosso at Monza,” he said on the motorsports top-flight website. “It was his first [victory], and the first for the team, it was his way of working, he was clear that he would become a great driver, and then he won four world titles.”

“I was convinced that I could become Formula 1 champion if I was at the right time in the right team, and that was what happened with Red Bull and Ferrari, which had many successes, won many races,” said one of the most respected personalities within the paddock.

On his retirement from the Great Circus, the one who was his boss during his first two courses in the highest category of motorsports said: “Now he has decided to leave Formula 1, and we will miss him, at least I personally, yes.”

“We meet many times, and he’s a fantastic character, he’s always very open, plus he’s been very successful,” she continued. “I wish him and his family all the best for the future.”
