“Jeck im Sunnesching” is to be celebrated in Bonn’s Rheinaue on Saturday – with many bands and tens of thousands of spectators. A local resident could prevent that at the last second.

Bonn – It is a case whose certain drama is probably difficult for people outside of the Rhineland to understand: A few days before the jecken festival “Jeck im Sunnesching Bonn”, the popular open-air event in the federal city with tens of thousands of revelers is about to end .

A resident of the Rheinaue, where the party is supposed to go up on Saturday, has filed an urgent application: He is suing the city of Bonn, which approved “Jeck im Sunnesching 2022”. His problem: the music, the people – the noise. The city administration around Bonn’s Mayor Katja Dörner sees herself as right. The authority argues with the administrative court that each municipality is allowed to carry out up to 18 so-called “rare events” per year according to the leisure noise decree of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia.

  • “Jeck im Sunnesching” is an open-air festival with well-known Cologne bands such as Kasalla, Brings and Cat Ballou
  • From 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., many visitors celebrate the Rhenish way of life in costume – and the Kölsch
  • The Gaffel brewery is one of the people behind “Jeck im Sunnesching”.
  • The event in 2020 and 2021 was canceled due to Corona
  • Because of its proximity to the Cologne carnival, “Jeck im Sunnesching” is not without controversy – traditionalists see the tradition threatened by an event outside of the carnival session

The administrative court must now decide – and that is located in the carnival stronghold of Cologne, of all places. Incidentally, there will also be a “Jeck im Sunnesching” party there (Jugendpark, Cologne-Mülheim), a week later on September 3rd. (kem)
