PAHO: COVID-19 cases decrease in Mexico, the United States and Canada

The United States, Canada and Mexico are reporting a general reduction in cases and deaths from COVID-19, although infections are increasing again in the rest of America, said this Wednesday the director of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Carissa Etienne.

Colombia is registering the highest rate of infections in South America, where new cases have tripled in some regions, and Brazil is seeing an increase in new infections and hospitalizations.

Despite the drastic increase in infections, hospitalizations and deaths in Haiti, the public measures required to stop the transmission of the virus are mostly ignored by the population, Etienne warned.

"Today I am particularly concerned about the situation in Haiti, where sources report a sharp increase in cases, hospitalizations and deaths in recent weeks," said the director of the regional arm of the World Health Organization (WHO).

"We call on partners and organizations working in Haiti to urgently strengthen the response to COVID-19."
